Phobia - Hindi movie review
The movie Phobia has a creepy atmosphere from the very first frame. It fully captivates the audience with its clever storytelling. The first half is well-paced, but it takes some time for its convoluted plot to develop.
To have written a script like Phobia takes a genius like Pavan Kripalani. It is difficult to turn the film's concept of shedding light on the concept of phobia into a fine thriller. The film's tightly written script keeps the audience riveted from the beginning.
The film Phobia's plot contains intentionally humorous elements that provide a welcome reprieve after a frightening buildup.
The characters, especially the sidekicks like Manu, the odd neighbor, and Nikki, the young neighbor who goes to college, are brilliantly written. They are woven into the narrative at crucial points and keep it moving forward.
Since Bollywood rarely explores these subgenres, this film feels like an accomplishment for even considering it.
Throughout the film, there are numerous chilling moments that come and go, making it difficult for the weak-hearted.
The first half of the movie is manages to blur the lines between a supernatural thriller and a psychological thriller.
Artist Mehak Deo (Radhika Apte) is really talented. Mehak experiences a horrible sexual assault, which causes her to acquire agoraphobia—a fear of public places. She begins to stay with her sister, who gets psychological assistance, in order to deal with her dread. Mehak who has been isolated in the house for months due to her panic attacks making life difficult for her sister, is unintentionally shifted to another flat by Shaan (Satyadeep Mishra) .
The brilliant cinematography incorporates several references that aren't directly related to the plot. The director's talent can be seen in the smallest of details, such how the character of Nikki is depicted wearing a comical Tee that makes fun of ghosts during the build-up of the spooky theme.
in the second half, one can especially find content missing and the plot moves haphazardly as it rushes to a conclusion that not everyone will understand.
Also in the second half The movie falls short as it tries to maintain its agility. The movie stretches out in an unfavourable way, veering slightly from where it began. The film's climax is also impacted by the weak second half.
In order to enhance the plot, the lighting is carefully displayed in accordance with the protagonist's emotional state.
While some of the bloody scenes are graphic, I and they are bolder than what we typically see in Bollywood, which tends to tone things down. Thank goodness the censor board ignored them!
There is only one song in the movie, and it is a nice one that doesn't interrupt the plot. Most of the time, the background music does its magic, keeping you on the lookout for what lies ahead.q
Bollywood has advanced in its exploration of the psychological thriller subgenres with Phobia. For fans of experimental cinema, this movie is a must-see because to Radhika Apte's excellent performance.
