Sridevi received widespread acclaim in 1976 for her performance as the title character in K. Balachander's "Moondru Mudichu." She was regarded as Tamil cinema's brightest star at the time, and Hindi-speaking film industry producers were also drawn to her alluring on-screen presence.
After playing the lead role in the action-packed comedy "Himmatwala," Sridevi gained notoriety on a national scale and became a major force at Bollywood's box office. She gave outstanding performances during the subsequent ten years in films including the heartfelt romantic drama "Sadma" and the humorous comedy "ChaalBaz." She stood out because she defied gender stereotypes in a male-dominated field by taking the lead in big-budget films without a male actor.
After taking a brief break from acting in the early 2000s, Sridevi made a comeback on television through programmes like "Malini" and "Kaboom." She then offered her knowledge by serving on the board of the Asian Academy of Film & Television.
