Sridevi: 60th Birthday Celebration
Hindi Movie Review "MAI"
Casts :Asha Bhosle, Padmini Kolhapure, Ram Kapoor
Director : Mahesh Kodiyal
Asha Bhosle tried to perform her role very efficiently in the movie called MAI, Bollywood has produced countless films featuring helpless parents and their unappreciative, callous kids. But When it comes to illustrating the mother-daughter relationship, Mai, however, has its moments. She demonstrates that age is simply a number. Her performance is the film's best point, but the topic is cliched.
Asha Bhosle, a famed singer in India, makes her acting debut in Mai (which means mother in Marathi), and she does not disappoint the audience! Her portrayal of a woman who raised her four children on her own before being abandoned by them in her old age is heartbreaking. It will make the audiences to cry during the scenes where Madhu is seen treating her mother like a child.
After deciding to relocate to the US, Mai (Asha Bhosle) receives little support from her son Munna. Despite opposition from her journalist husband Ram Kapoor, the eldest daughter Madhu (Padmini Kolhapure) does not shirk her responsibility for her ailing mother like her siblings did. Teenage daughter of Madhu and her husband say they need their own room. But despite of all their disgust, Madhu brings Mai at their home, who is also afflicted with Alzheimer's,
The drama in the movie is overdone. The narrative didn't need to be that dramatic. It doesn't make sense that Ram Kapoor is acting badly and pouting because his mother-in-law is living at his home. It's equally disgusting why he afterwards changes his mind.
Although Padmini Kolhapure acted efficiently, but her character position is not clearly defined. The soothing song Chanda Ki Bindiya, which Asha Tai sings well, is superfluous impediments that lengthen the film. Ram Kapoor and Anupam Kher plays nicely in their roes.
The problems of the supporting cast serve as a diversion, most of the scenes appeared as fuzzy and out of focus because of the poor.
